Evening Gowns for the Godmother

It is rather important for the dress worn by the godmother to meet certain essential aspects. Everyone knows that no other woman is more beautiful than the bride, on the wedding day, but since the godmother plays a key role in this official ceremony, her outfit and overall aspect must be astonishing, yet kept under the strict rule imposed by the wedding theme. So, if you are about to become a godmother, we have some gown suggestions for you.

First of all, an evening gown cannot be otherwise but elegant; it has to make one stand out in a very classy way. Therefore, we recommend that you follow this pattern and decide upon a long evening dress which has to be in a dark shade of red or blue. You can, nevertheless, anytime settle for the well-known little black dress model, but to which you can add – to fit the festive atmosphere of the event – some ruffles.

Now, back to the colors that are mostly recommended for evening gowns, they must be chosen carefully, but not before you have taken into consideration important factors. For instance, a color that will give one a nice look is a color that matches the eye color or the accessories. However, if you are not sure what color matches your eyes best, or you have not yet bought the wedding accessories, we can inform you that most evening gowns for godmothers come in dark red (as previously mentioned), but also purple, silver or gold.

It is also quite fashionable to wear a black and white dress. These two colors have always left an impression. If you have other colors in mind, we advise you to take into consideration the fact that it never looks good if the godmother wear a dress whose color is similar to the bride’s. Dresses that are embroidered are strongly recommended, and lace has always been a tasteful expression of elegance.

As you probably know, godmothers wear two dresses: one for the wedding ceremony and one for the wedding reception. Usually, if the ceremony takes place in a church (or a cathedral), godmother choose to wear a gown that covers the shoulders, whereas for the reception, they can be more sexy and reveal the shoulders, or even the back.

The rule says the length of the dress worn by the godmother must be the same as the length of the bride’s dress. You should follow this rule accordingly, and make sure not to wear a short evening gown if the bride has a long wedding dress and the other way around.
